KUALA LUMPUR, September 22 — Qualcomm has made a recent approach to acquire Intel, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the situation. While Qualcomm’s market value is twice that of Intel’s, the potential deal could be one of the largest ever in the semiconductor industry, positioning Qualcomm to lead a historic Silicon Valley company facing challenges in adapting to the AI-driven chip market.

Intel, once the world’s largest chipmaker, has been struggling with falling sales, mounting losses, and declining stock value. The company has been working on turning its business around, focusing on AI processors and custom chip manufacturing for companies like Amazon. However, the potential deal between Qualcomm and Intel is far from certain and could attract antitrust scrutiny due to its magnitude. Both companies have declined to comment on the discussions.
