GEORGE TOWN, September 22 — The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has announced plans to complete three major pipeline projects by 2026, with a total investment of RM189 million. These projects are aimed at improving water distribution and services for over 465,000 water consumers across Penang. The initiative includes a new 13.0km pipeline from Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to Butterworth, a 3.9km pipeline from Macallum to the Bukit Dumbar Reservoir, and the Sungai Perai River-Crossing Pipeline Project.
The projects will help PBAPP enhance water supply pressure and distribution, covering 67.4% of Penang’s registered water consumers. In addition to these, a new RM120 million water treatment plant at the Expanded Mengkuang Dam (EMD) will further boost supply in Seberang Perai Tengah by 2025. The initiative aligns with PBAPP’s Water Supply Contingency Plan 2030, which aims to meet the state’s growing water needs.
