GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng has appealed to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to extend RM1,000 in cash aid to Penang families affected by recent floods. Lim’s request follows the government’s approval of similar aid for flood victims in Kedah, where each household received RM1,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and an additional RM1,000 through the Prime Minister’s Department.

The recent flash floods in Penang displaced 623 people, with the last relief centres closing yesterday as victims returned home. Lim made the call during the Penang DAP convention, urging the prime minister to offer the same assistance to flood-hit Penang residents, while also thanking Anwar for the approval of key infrastructure projects like the Penang International Airport expansion and the RM13 billion light rail transit system.
