GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — Penang DAP delegates have asserted their right to pick their own leaders ahead of a crucial state committee election. With 1,466 delegates from 296 branches voting at the Setia Spice Convention Centre, today’s election results will play a pivotal role in shaping the party’s direction as it heads into the next general election.
Despite DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook endorsing Steven Sim and Lim Hui Ying as the preferred leadership team, many delegates expressed that the decision should be made by local members. Penang members argued that they understand the party’s needs better and should not be swayed by external influences.
