GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh emerged as the top vote-getter in the Penang DAP party election today, securing 1,247 votes. He was followed closely by Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, who garnered 1,237 votes, while former Penang executive councillor Yeoh Soon Hin took third place with 1,225 votes.
The Penang DAP convention saw delegates elect 15 members to the state committee, which will decide the new leadership for the 2024-2027 term. Notably, Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying, who was expected to perform strongly, finished 12th with 827 votes. Other prominent figures such as Zairil Khir Johari (1,166 votes) and Daniel Gooi Zi Sen (1,133 votes) also secured places on the committee.
Several well-known assemblymen, including Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo and state exco Wong Hon Wai, failed to make the cut, receiving only 503 and 340 votes respectively. Six of the 13 assemblymen who contested in the state polls did not secure enough votes, highlighting a shift in the committee’s makeup.
The newly elected committee will now deliberate on key appointments, including the chairman, to guide Penang DAP’s strategy ahead of the next general election.
