GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok has been hailed as the “new Karpal Singh” and the voice of DAP’s conscience following her outspoken stance on mandatory halal certification. Ganeson Ramasamy, chairman of the Happy Valley DAP branch, praised Kok for her courage, comparing her to the late Karpal Singh, who was known for his bold leadership.
Ganeson expressed disappointment that more DAP leaders did not fully support Kok after she was criticised by Umno Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh for opposing mandatory halal certification. He called for stronger backing from the party, emphasizing that DAP needs leaders like Kok to stand firm on contentious issues, much like Karpal, the renowned “Tiger of Jelutong.”
