KUALA LUMPUR, September 24 — The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a confirmed mpox case yesterday, marking the country’s 10th case since July 2022. The patient, a male citizen with no history of international travel, showed symptoms of fever, headache, and cough on September 11, followed by a rash the next day. The case involves the clade II strain, which is generally milder and has a lower mortality rate.

The patient is currently in isolation and in stable condition, while MoH identifies and monitors all close contacts. Despite mpox being declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) in August due to outbreaks in Africa, Malaysia remains vigilant, with the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre actively coordinating response efforts.
