KUALA LUMPUR, September 26 – Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing has urged Chinese voters in Mahkota to participate in this Saturday’s by-election, humorously warning that failing to vote could lead to losing freedoms such as wearing shorts and miniskirts. Speaking at a Chinese cultural event, Tiong jokingly referenced a woman wearing a skirt above her knees, suggesting that not voting might support PAS’ more conservative views.
Tiong emphasized that the Chinese community, which makes up 35% of Mahkota’s electorate, must back Barisan Nasional to reject Perikatan Nasional’s “extreme” stance. He reassured voters that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is committed to unity and addressed concerns over Chinese voter discontent, particularly regarding Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s recent criticism of Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
