PUTRAJAYA, September 28 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that government-linked companies (GLCs) and some private firms will offer higher starting salaries to technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates, ranging from RM2,500 to RM4,000. This initiative aims to uplift TVET’s status from being perceived as low-skilled to a highly valued profession. Zahid explained that salaries would vary based on the graduates’ Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) levels.
The move comes as part of a broader government effort to enhance TVET’s appeal, with private sector involvement and substantial investment. Employment rates for TVET graduates have steadily improved, rising from 65.5% in 2010 to 87.6% in 2020, reflecting the growing demand for these skills. This initiative supports the Anwar government’s push to strengthen TVET as a key educational policy.
