BAYAN LEPAS, October 1 – Penang has launched the “Penang Silicon Design @5km+” initiative, a comprehensive plan to develop an integrated ecosystem for Integrated Circuit (IC) design and technology enterprises. With a total investment of RM120 million over five years, including RM60 million from the Penang State Government, the initiative aligns with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy to bolster the semiconductor industry.

Key components include the Penang IC Design & Digital Park, the Penang Chip Design Academy, and the Silicon Research and Incubation Space, which will offer incentives and support for both local and international IC design companies. The initiative, inaugurated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, aims to position Penang as a leading hub for innovation, with the goal of advancing Malaysia’s digital economy and semiconductor industry.
