PUTRAJAYA, October 1 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has signaled a potential end to government subsidies for students from wealthy families attending top public schools. Speaking at the National Symposium to End Poverty, Anwar expressed concerns over socio-economic programs that have disproportionately benefited affluent families, despite being intended for the underprivileged.
Highlighting a systemic issue where elite families access subsidized education in top schools like Mara Junior Science College, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for reforms. “If a wealthy child attends these institutions, they should contribute more,” he stated, adding that upcoming federal budget changes will prioritize fairness and ensure support reaches those who truly need it.
