CYBERJAYA, October 4 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched a public consultation to seek feedback on the proposed complete adoption of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) in Malaysia. The consultation, running from 2 October to 31 October 2024, aims to gather industry and public insights on how to expedite the country’s transition from the older IPv4 system to the more advanced IPv6.
The move towards IPv6 is essential as the increasing number of internet-connected devices has led to the depletion of IPv4 addresses. IPv6 offers a larger pool of addresses and is designed to support future growth in internet services. MCMC’s proposal outlines a phased implementation plan, targeting full migration from 2025 to 2028.
MCMC invites all stakeholders, including industry players and the public, to submit their feedback on the plan by 12:00 noon, 31 October 2024. The Commission emphasized the importance of this transition in ensuring Malaysia’s continued digital growth and capacity for handling future technological demands.
