IPOH, October 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed disapproval towards certain elite groups in Malaysia who prioritize English over Bahasa Melayu, the national language. He emphasized that success should not be solely linked to English proficiency, urging these groups to remember their responsibility to the country.
Speaking at the launch of National Language Month 2024, Anwar stressed that national unity and economic progress must go hand in hand with cultural empowerment, including language and literature. He affirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to elevating Bahasa Melayu while ensuring support for other languages.
