GEORGE TOWN, October 11 – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of roads across Penang Island, calling on the state government to review construction and maintenance standards. CAP’s recent survey highlighted key areas with significant damage, including Jalan Thean Teik, Jalan Paya Terubong, Jalan Jelutong, and other residential roads, citing potholes and uneven surfaces as major hazards to road users.
CAP President Mohideen Abdul Kader emphasized the need for regular road inspections and holding contractors accountable for subpar workmanship. With the increasing number of vehicles on Penang’s roads and the expected surge in tourists during the holiday season, CAP urges immediate repairs to prevent potential accidents and vehicle damage, ensuring safer and smoother travel.
