KUALA LUMPUR, October 12 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to allocate an additional RM3.3 million to reduce the cost of the Perajurit Broadband package from RM49 to RM39 for the first six months. Speaking at the launch of the Broadband Soldier Initiative, Fahmi emphasized the importance of high-speed internet access for military personnel and called on service providers, including fibre-to-home companies, to support the government’s efforts in enhancing connectivity for all Malaysians.

The initiative aims to improve internet access in key areas while also creating economic opportunities. Fahmi noted that subscriptions for the broadband service are expected to commence by the end of this year, with some military camps possibly starting earlier. He outlined a two-phase implementation plan, with the second phase projected to gain momentum by January 2025, focusing on assessing and upgrading the communication infrastructure at military bases to ensure comprehensive coverage.
