GEORGE TOWN, October 16 – Penang is hopeful that the Penang Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project will officially begin by the end of this year, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. The state government had earlier indicated that the project was set to start in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Chow explained that Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), the project’s implementation agency, is currently in the final stages of negotiations with the contractor, SRS Consortium, over technical details and contract value. Once these are resolved and an agreement is signed, physical work on the first segment, connecting Bayan Lepas to Komtar, can proceed.
