GEORGE TOWN, October 20 – Penang Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, has expressed strong support for the 2025 Budget, particularly the approval of the Juru and Sungai Dua Elevated Highway projects. Announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Chow emphasized that these projects are urgently needed to ease traffic congestion and hopes for their rapid implementation.
The Chief Minister also welcomed the plan to build a new Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Seberang Perai, enhancing the quality of public services in the region alongside existing facilities at UTC @ Komtar. Chow added that the Penang government will fully support federal efforts, including UDA Holdings’ initiative to develop waqf land, aligning with local NGOs’ calls to strengthen Malay land ownership on the island.
Other notable federal projects for Penang include the Raw Water Transfer Project from Sungai Perak, the Penang LRT, expansion of Penang International Airport (LTAPP), and Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3. Chow believes these developments will drive the state’s overall progress, particularly in the semiconductor industry through collaborations between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and global tech giants like Intel and Infineon.
