Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform, boasting what the company claims is the “world’s fastest mobile CPU.” Powered by the new Oryon CPU, designed in-house by Qualcomm, the chip marks a departure from the semi-custom Kryo chips used in previous models. Built on a 3-nanometer process with eight cores, the Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers peak speeds of 4.32 GHz, outperforming even Apple’s A18 Pro chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro series.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also features significant advancements in power efficiency and performance, offering 45% faster CPU performance and 44% better energy efficiency compared to previous Qualcomm chips. In addition to a new Adreno GPU for enhanced graphics and battery life, the chip integrates 5G and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, positioning it to power upcoming Android devices from brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and more.
Qualcomm has equipped the Snapdragon 8 Elite with cutting-edge AI capabilities, thanks to its Qualcomm AI Engine. The platform is designed to support generative AI directly on smartphones, enabling sophisticated on-device tasks such as image recognition, voice processing, and enhanced multitasking. Qualcomm’s senior VP, Chris Patrick, described the new platform as a “major leap forward,” offering personalized AI-driven experiences while ensuring user privacy.
