PUTRAJAYA, October 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s apology over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal with a notably sarcastic tone, stating, “Well received, well received, well received.” The comment came following Anwar’s participation in the Friday prayer session in Putrajaya, where he was asked to share his thoughts on Najib’s recent statement.
Najib’s apology, delivered yesterday, expressed shock and regret over the handling of 1MDB and sought understanding from Malaysians. Ahead of the High Court’s decision next Wednesday on whether he will be acquitted or required to defend himself against 25 charges tied to RM2.27 billion of stolen funds, Najib argued that he should not be legally held as a victim of the situation.
