KUALA LUMPUR, November 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended his decision to accept former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s apology regarding the 1MDB scandal, describing it as an act of “good leadership.” Speaking at the Perak PKR Convention, Anwar emphasized that his acceptance was in good faith, positioning himself as a “father of the nation” who must respond appropriately to gestures of accountability.

Najib issued an apology last week while maintaining his innocence, claiming he had been misled by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho and others. Anwar faced criticism for accepting Najib’s apology, with detractors accusing him of lacking the authority to do so. In response, he dismissed the criticism as “bebal” (slow-witted) and reaffirmed his commitment to combating corruption across all agencies, including the Customs Department, Inland Revenue Board, police, and MACC.

Stressing that his approach is comprehensive, he highlighted that the Cabinet unanimously supports decisive action against those who embezzle national funds.
