GEORGE TOWN, November 2 – The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) has applauded the measures outlined in the National Budget 2025, which aim to address long-standing economic challenges. CAP praised the government’s focus on helping the needy and taxing the rich, but urged strict monitoring to prevent misuse of the RM335 billion allocated for operating expenses and RM86 billion for development, citing past reports of inefficient spending.

CAP also welcomed the proposed increase in the minimum wage from RM1,500 to RM1,700 but emphasized that it must be a stepping stone toward a living wage, which stands at around RM2,700 in urban areas. Additionally, CAP supported the decision to tax premium imported goods like salmon while exempting basic food items, seeing it as a way to boost the local economy. However, the association called for further efforts to enhance agricultural output and food security.
