GEORGE TOWN, November 5 — The International Conference of Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers (ICBES) 2024 officially launched today at Ascott Gurney Penang, welcoming nearly 100 delegates from 20 countries dedicated to butterfly conservation and education. Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), YB Wong Hon Wai, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of butterflies as indicators of environmental health and Penang’s commitment to conservation.

This year’s conference, organized by the International Association of Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers (IABES) and hosted by Entopia, spotlights Penang as a leader in ecotourism and biodiversity. The conference will facilitate discussions on critical topics, including sustainable breeding programs and innovative educational exhibits. Joseph Goh, CEO of Entopia, expressed pride in hosting ICBES once again, highlighting Penang’s unique biodiversity and rich heritage.

“ICBES serves as a vital platform for exchanging ideas that shape the future of butterfly conservation,” he stated, encouraging participants to engage fully in the conference’s workshops and activities. Beyond the conference sessions, attendees are invited to experience Penang’s ecotourism attractions, including Penang Hill and the National Park.

Both YB Wong and Goh hope ICBES 2024 will inspire lasting partnerships and initiatives that protect butterfly habitats and foster a deeper understanding of their ecological roles worldwide.
