KUALA LUMPUR, November 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that discussions are underway among the unity government’s coalition partners to extend their alliance beyond the current term and the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16). Anwar, also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, expressed optimism about the coalition’s stability and collaboration, noting that a prolonged alliance could benefit Malaysians by fostering political stability.
“We’re quite comfortable in that sense,” Anwar told Free Malaysia Today, noting that the cooperation among PH, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah has brought a level of political stability that Malaysia hasn’t seen in recent years. He believes that consistent policies and a united front could secure continued voter support in the future.
The unity government was initially formed after a hung parliament in GE15. BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also voiced support for maintaining this coalition, underscoring the alliance’s potential for enduring political stability, economic growth, and prosperity leading into GE16.
