KUALA LUMPUR, November 8 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced a temporary ban on using electrical sockets aboard express buses following the tragic death of a teenager who was electrocuted while charging his mobile phone on a bus in Penang. The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) imposed the ban pending a thorough investigation into the incident.

Loke confirmed in the Dewan Rakyat that the ban will remain in place until authorities can determine the cause of the electrocution. “All buses equipped with these sockets are temporarily prohibited from using them as we conduct investigations,” he stated in response to a query from Merbok MP Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan.

A Special Task Force has been formed to lead the investigation, and Loke has directed it to deliver a complete report within 14 days. This task force will help clarify the exact cause of the incident and assess necessary safety measures for electrical sockets on public transport.
