SHAH ALAM, November 11 – DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke hinted that some of Selangor DAP’s emerging political talents could stand in other states in future elections due to limited federal seats available for the party within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. Speaking at the Selangor DAP Convention 2024, Loke praised the depth of young talent within Selangor DAP, noting that the state has become a “hub” for developing new political leaders. However, with only four parliamentary seats in Selangor – Bangi, Damansara, Puchong, and Klang – there are more qualified candidates than available slots.
“Some leaders will eventually retire, making room for younger figures. Selangor DAP could easily field 10 candidates, but only four seats are open, creating a natural need to look at opportunities elsewhere,” Loke remarked. He added that it would not be surprising if some of these leaders were chosen to contest in other states, reinforcing DAP’s commitment to inclusivity and progress.
During the convention, where a new committee for the 2024-2027 term was elected, Loke emphasized DAP’s vision of diversity and unity. He urged delegates to focus on building a “team DAP” rather than dividing into factions, emphasizing inclusivity by calling for greater representation across ethnic groups and more women in leadership.
