GEORGE TOWN, November 11 – Penang police have successfully dismantled a major drug lab operation, seizing RM3 million worth of drugs and arresting a key “master chef” along with four accomplices in multiple raids last Wednesday. The operation, targeting a Kuala Lumpur-based syndicate, involved arrests at various locations across Penang, uncovering a rented house in Tanjung Bungah where the suspects processed ecstasy powder, methamphetamine, and ketamine.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin reported that the drug production techniques were learned via social media, and some suspects had prior narcotics records. The police also confiscated assets worth RM89,000, including vehicles and a scooter, pushing the total seized value to RM3.1 million.
The group’s modus operandi involved renting properties as labs and storage for distribution across Penang and the Klang Valley. All suspects are currently held on remand until November 13 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as authorities continue investigations into the syndicate’s operations.
