KUALA LUMPUR, November 12 – Education minister Fadhlina Sidek reaffirmed in the Dewan Rakyat that the government will not reinstate the UPSR and PT3 exams for primary and lower secondary students, which were abolished in 2021 and 2022. Instead, the ministry is enhancing the Year-End School Assessment (UASA) for Year Six and Form Three students, aiming to reduce stress and provide a more comprehensive assessment of students’ abilities.

The UASA, a school-based exam conducted annually, follows principles set out by the World Education Forum to prioritize students’ overall development. “This system is better suited for students’ well-being as it lowers exam-related stress,” Fadhlina explained, emphasizing that the UASA provides a balanced approach that considers academic and personal growth. The ministry is committed to refining the UASA and calls for patience as it continues to strengthen this approach.
