KUALA LUMPUR, November 13 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced a phased plan to eliminate natural gas for vehicles (NGV) use in Malaysia, starting with a registration ban for NGV-powered vehicles on July 1, 2025. This measure is part of the government’s safety initiative, with Loke noting that the country has around 44,383 NGV vehicles, most of which are nearing the end of their NGV tank service life.
In addition, Petronas will gradually cease NGV fuel sales from the same date. To support the transition, the government will offer assistance programs for NGV vehicle owners, including an RM3,000 e-voucher for taxi drivers, free NGV kit removal for dual-fuel vehicles, and a one-time payment for owners of pure NGV vehicles based on appraised value. Applications for these support packages will be available on the program’s website.
