KUALA LUMPUR, November 14 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced today that the FLYsiswa travel support initiative will now be implemented annually to aid student travel across Malaysia. As of November 4, 2024, 68 percent of eligible students, amounting to 35,183 out of 52,030, have redeemed their FLYsiswa vouchers. Loke explained in the Dewan Rakyat that this decision aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering regional integration between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan, reinforcing national unity under the Malaysian Federation.
The initiative, originally introduced in the 2024 Budget, was endorsed by the Cabinet in September 2024 to provide continued assistance for students studying outside their home states. Notably, 42.7 percent of eligible students are from Sabah, while 36.8 percent are from Sarawak, with the majority attending educational institutions in Peninsular Malaysia. By easing travel expenses, the FLYsiswa program supports educational accessibility and encourages interregional mobility, benefiting students at public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation centers, and teacher education institutes nationwide.
