AZERBAIJAN, November 17 – Citaglobal Bhd has announced its collaboration with the Port of Baku to develop a 5.4 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility, marking a historic step in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector. Unveiled during the United Nations Climate Conference (COP 29), the project is set to be the country’s first-ever commercial solar power installation integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The facility will be supported by a 21-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ensuring a stable energy supply and predictable costs for the Port of Baku over the long term.
Led by Tiza Green Energy LLC, a joint venture between Citaglobal Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd and Tiza Global Azerbaijan LLC, the project will begin with rooftop solar PV installations, expanding in later phases to include ground-mounted systems. Citaglobal’s innovative MYBESS technology will also be used to store excess energy, allowing the port to maximize solar energy use and reduce reliance on the national grid. This marks a significant move towards sustainability, contributing to Azerbaijan’s broader goals of increasing the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to over 60% by 2050.

Tan Sri Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of Tiza Green Energy LLC and Executive Chairman of Citaglobal, praised the partnership as a key milestone in advancing green energy solutions. Dr. Taleh Ziyadov, Director-General of the Port of Baku, highlighted the project’s alignment with the port’s ambitious sustainability targets, including achieving zero emissions by 2035. The project further strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as a leader in renewable energy in the Caspian region.
This collaboration not only supports Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable energy but also showcases Citaglobal’s expertise in implementing innovative, cost-effective renewable energy solutions on a global scale. The Port of Baku’s transition to solar power is expected to serve as a model for future green energy projects across the region.
