KUALA LUMPUR, November 17 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fadillah Yusof announced that the government is open to engaging with any Member of Parliament (MP) interested in discussing budget allocations for opposition representatives. However, so far, only Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, the MUDA MP for Muar, has responded to this invitation. Dr Fadillah shared that he is currently reviewing Syed Saddiq’s proposals, which he plans to discuss with government chief whips before providing a formal response.

Dr Fadillah emphasized that while he remains open to dialogue, the opposition as a whole has rejected the offer for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on allocations. The opposition bloc previously cited concerns that the MoU’s conditions might conflict with the Federal Constitution and potentially impact the special rights of Malays and Bumiputeras.

In his role as Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, Dr Fadillah also revealed that PETRA, through its agency MyPower, is conducting a Nuclear Energy Pre-Feasibility Study. This study, expected by December 2024, will evaluate the potential for nuclear energy, including the development of small modular reactor (SMR) technology. If nuclear energy is pursued, the government would implement extensive training initiatives to build a skilled workforce for the sector.
