KUALA LUMPUR, November 18 – As the year-end shopping rush approaches, Palo Alto Networks highlights the importance of strong cyber hygiene to protect against online scams and fraud. With the increase in online shopping, travel bookings, and digital payments during 11.11 Singles’ Day and Black Friday, cybercriminals are more active, taking advantage of the high volume of transactions. From 2021 to April 2024, Malaysia saw RM3.18 billion in losses due to online scams, underscoring the need for consumers and businesses alike to be vigilant.

Sarene Lee, Country Manager of Palo Alto Networks Malaysia, stresses proactive steps for safe online practices, recommending consumers verify email authenticity, use two-factor authentication, shop only through secure channels, and strengthen passwords. For businesses, Lee advises a Zero Trust security approach, particularly as retail is among Malaysia’s top industries targeted by ransomware. This strategy, involving strict user verification and comprehensive threat detection, ensures seamless customer experiences while safeguarding against rising cyber threats.
