GEORGE TOWN, November 22 – A scheduled 14-hour water supply interruption will affect approximately 37,000 consumers in Penang Island’s northern beachfront areas from 10:00 PM on Thursday, 28 November, to 12:00 noon on Friday, 29 November 2024. Affected locations include Bagan Jermal, Batu Ferringhi, Mount Erskine, Tanjung Bungah, Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Pinang, and Teluk Bahang.
The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) advises all residents, including international hotels in these areas, to store sufficient water in advance for overnight and morning use during this disruption. This interruption is essential for replacing a malfunctioning 900mm valve at the Batu Ferringhi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and conducting preventive maintenance, including electrical servicing of high-voltage equipment.
The works aim to enhance the plant’s efficiency and reduce the risk of unplanned breakdowns, ensuring reliable water supply amid rising demand and climate challenges. PBAPP CEO Dato’ Ir. Pathmanathan K. noted that the timing was planned during night and early morning hours to minimize inconvenience to consumers.
