GEORGE TOWN, November 23 – The Penang state government has established district-level task forces to tackle quit rent arrears, a significant factor contributing to the state’s 42.68% deficit increase. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced in the state legislative assembly today that the task forces are empowered to inspect premises and seize properties with overdue payments.
To incentivize compliance, the state has introduced a rebate program for property owners and encouraged the use of the PgLAND online portal for quit rent payments and other land-related transactions. Chow emphasized that Penang is committed to prudent fiscal management, prioritizing essential expenditures like emoluments, contractual obligations, and development projects while working to boost revenue collection.
