KUALA LUMPUR, November 23 — Over RM12.8 billion in unclaimed money remains in the Accountant General’s Department, waiting to be reclaimed by rightful owners, according to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. As of October 31, companies have transferred RM17 billion in unclaimed funds, of which only RM4.2 billion has been successfully claimed. Amir Hamzah highlighted these figures during the Dewan Rakyat session, where he encouraged further public action to retrieve unclaimed money.
To raise awareness, 184 booths have been set up across the country since 2022, and the government is now considering using National Registration Department data to help locate rightful owners or heirs, enabling direct credit transfers. Additionally, Amir Hamzah noted the government’s continued support for Kelantan and Terengganu, especially in poverty alleviation and infrastructure projects, with initiatives like the Central Spine Road and new water treatment plants in Kelantan, as well as rural school upgrades in Terengganu.
