PUTRAJAYA, November 27 – The Immigration Department will launch an online Special Pass (eSP) system in January to streamline government processes and reduce congestion at counters, according to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The Special Pass, which allows foreigners to stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days, is currently issued manually, requiring in-person document submissions. The introduction of the eSP is expected to ease congestion, as 50% of transactions at visa and pass counters are related to Special Pass applications.

Saifuddin emphasized that while the eSP will simplify the application process, the ministry will uphold stringent security measures. Applicants will need to meet eligibility criteria and provide the necessary supporting documents. Each application will undergo a careful review, and those who do not meet the requirements will be directed to immigration offices for further inspection. The move is part of the government’s efforts to improve efficiency and enhance the overall immigration process.
