BAKU, November 27 — Malaysia is amplifying its commitment to ASEAN’s green economy transformation at COP29 under the theme Powering Through Change. The Malaysia Pavilion hosted 26 insightful sessions, featuring 39 global and local thought leaders, and welcomed close to 910 attendees. These discussions centered on vital topics, including just energy transitions, sustainable climate financing, and innovative climate tech solutions.
Datuk Dr. Ching Thoo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, highlighted Malaysia’s resolve to foster regional resilience and sustainable growth as the ASEAN Chair in 2025. Key initiatives include the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund, targeting a £40 million investment for green economic acceleration, and insights from the Asian Development Bank’s new report on climate-resilient fiscal strategies.
Industry leaders such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad and PETRONAS emphasized Malaysia’s strategic shift toward renewable energy, while the Malaysian Palm Oil Council underscored sustainable practices within the palm oil sector. Through bold policies, collaborative frameworks, and innovation-driven solutions, Malaysia is positioning itself as a global leader in the green economy and environmental sustainability.
