KUALA LUMPUR, November 29 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil will meet with the management of three news portals today to address the issue of unpaid salaries affecting media personnel. Fahmi expressed his concern and emphasized his commitment to monitoring the situation with Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong to ensure journalists’ welfare and rights are upheld.

This comes after the National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJ) voiced its readiness to mediate unresolved salary issues involving The Malaysian Insight, The Vibes, and Getaran. NUJ President Farah Marshita Abdul Patah reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting journalists and ensuring timely payment of overdue wages. Fahmi highlighted the availability of the Kasih@HAWANA Fund to support media practitioners in distress and assured continued efforts to safeguard the welfare of freelance and permanent staff in the industry.

The minister also clarified that a recent issue involving delayed payments to creative freelancers was an isolated case that has since been resolved internally. He pledged that the Ministry of Communications and RTM would continue to prioritize fair treatment and support for all media and creative professionals. The Dewan Rakyat session resumes today.
