RIO DE JANEIRO, November 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s first official visit to Brazil has unlocked an estimated RM6.8 billion (US$1.57 billion) in export potential over the next three to five years. The milestone emerged from high-level discussions with 58 industry leaders from 28 top Brazilian companies and business associations, focusing on sectors like oil and gas services, semiconductors, palm oil, and aerospace components.
During a press conference, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted the deepening Malaysia-Brazil trade ties, underscored by a 19.8% increase in bilateral trade to RM14.83 billion (US$3.2 billion) from January to September 2024. Notable Brazilian imports of Malaysian goods reached RM1.16 billion (US$267.1 million) in 2023, while Malaysian firms such as PETRONAS and Yinson have invested over US$15 billion in Brazil’s energy sector, further cementing the robust economic partnership.
