GEORGE TOWN, November 28 – Penang is set to introduce an elevated coastal highway offering panoramic sea views as part of the realigned North Coastal Paired Road project, announced state exco Zairil Khir Johari. Connecting Tanjung Bungah to Teluk Bahang, the highway’s alignment has been revised to avoid residential areas like Leader Garden and Mar Vista, prioritizing safety and minimizing disruption to mature housing developments.
The project, part of Package One under the state’s major infrastructure initiative, will feature Malaysia’s first elevated coastal highway, pending state exco approval. Construction could begin as early as 2025, contingent on funding and land acquisition. The highway promises to reduce travel time between Tanjung Bungah and Teluk Bahang to seven minutes, bypassing congested areas and incorporating only vacant lands, forest reserves, and agricultural plots for development.
