KUALA LUMPUR, November 29 – Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that the decision on Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) prime ministerial candidate will be determined collectively by the coalition’s supreme council, not by any individual leader.
Responding to debates sparked by PAS spiritual adviser Hashim Jasin’s remarks suggesting PAS’s stronger grassroots make it better suited to lead, Muhyiddin emphasized that such decisions require thorough discussion and agreement within the council. Muhyiddin, who leads Bersatu, expressed no objection to the possibility of PAS fielding a candidate, provided the decision garners majority support within PN.
“If everyone agrees on a better candidate, I have no problem,” he stated. He also called for internal cohesion, urging coalition leaders to handle such sensitive matters in a controlled manner, prioritizing the collective interests of PN and voter acceptance.
