GEORGE TOWN, December 2 – The Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) proudly announces the successful completion of its inaugural Penang Hill Eco-Heritage Guide Certification Programme. The initiative equips guides with essential knowledge and skills to enrich visitor experiences, providing accurate insights into Penang Hill’s history, biodiversity, and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation. This milestone underscores PHC’s dedication to sustainable tourism and environmental education.
Fifteen members of NatureWalks@Penang Hill, a volunteer-led initiative founded in 2017, completed the intensive four-day certification. Spanning eight comprehensive modules, the training included history, safety, flora and fauna, and guiding etiquette. It also featured expert contributions, including a lecture by Enzo Sim Hong Jun, author of The Great Hill: A Short History of Penang Hill, and first-aid training by the Malaysia Civil Defence Department. Participants gained further insights from government agencies, ensuring their ability to offer visitors engaging and informative excursions.
The programme reflects PHC’s commitment to enhancing the region’s eco-heritage narrative. Supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), this initiative promises to elevate Penang Hill’s appeal as a premier destination for nature and cultural heritage enthusiasts. Future certification sessions are planned to encourage greater youth involvement and foster a deeper appreciation of Penang Hill’s unique ecosystem.
