KUALA LUMPUR, December 5 – The signing of an agreement between Malaysia and Singapore to establish a special economic zone (SEZ) in Johor is expected to be delayed to January, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

Originally scheduled for December 9 during the annual leaders’ retreat, the signing was postponed after Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong contracted COVID-19, prompting him to self-isolate. The SEZ, a collaborative effort agreed upon in January, aims to enhance regional investment and streamline the movement of goods and people between the neighboring nations.

Key proposals include a passport-free immigration clearance system, renewable energy collaboration, and simplified business approvals, marking a significant step in boosting cross-border economic integration.
