ISKANDAR PUTERI, December 8 – The Johor government is exploring the possibility of introducing a night safari at the Johor Zoo, following positive feedback from visitors since its reopening on August 31. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi shared that while the concept is under consideration to attract more visitors, it is not an immediate priority as the zoo continues to undergo improvements.
He explained that ongoing enhancements include the installation of eco-friendly lighting systems that will create a nocturnal atmosphere without disrupting the animals’ habitats. Additionally, accessible entrances for people with disabilities and senior citizens will be factored into the planning before a night safari can be launched. Onn Hafiz noted that the zoo had already attracted 500,000 local and international visitors since its reopening.
The 96-year-old Johor Zoo, which underwent RM9.6 million in upgrades, is expected to draw over one million visitors in 2025. The zoo’s target is to generate RM6 million in revenue next year, operating independently based on its strong visitor response. The zoo, which houses 100 animal species over 120,000 square meters, can accommodate up to 5,000 visitors at a time.
