MANJUNG, December 13 – Vale marked a milestone in sustainable maritime innovation with the maiden arrival of the retrofitted Berge Neblina, a 388,000 dwt Valemax iron ore carrier equipped with rotor sails, at the Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT) in Lumut, Perak.

This cutting-edge technology harnesses wind energy, reducing fuel consumption by over 1,000 tonnes annually and cutting carbon emissions by up to 8%. The collaboration with Berge Bulk and Anemoi Marine Technologies underscores Vale’s commitment to decarbonizing maritime transportation in line with global environmental goals.

Celebrating Vale’s 10th year in Malaysia, CEO Leonardo Paiva highlighted the strategic importance of TRMT as a key Asia Pacific hub. As the first fully automated port in the region, TRMT complements Vale’s Ecoshipping Programme, aiming for a 15% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2035. This initiative reinforces Malaysia’s role in advancing sustainable and efficient global supply chains.
