KUALA LUMPUR, December 16 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has projected a significant leap in Malaysia’s GDP, driven by the digital economy and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking at the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Office, Anwar highlighted that AI could contribute up to 25.5 percent of GDP, up from over 23 percent this year. He emphasized that industries ranging from agriculture to manufacturing have already begun integrating AI to enhance productivity and global competitiveness.

Acknowledging the challenges of bridging the digital divide, Anwar stressed the need to raise digital literacy across all demographics, from urban elites to rural communities. “High income is achievable only if driven by digital transformation,” he said, underscoring the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint’s role in fostering inclusivity. He reaffirmed the establishment of Malaysia’s dedicated Digital Ministry as a critical step in propelling the nation toward high-income status.
