KUALA LUMPUR, December 18 — Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) Acting President Amira Aisya Abd Aziz has officially announced her candidacy in the party’s inaugural election, set for the second quarter of 2024. Speaking at Muda’s headquarters, the Puteri Wangsa assemblyman highlighted her commitment to fostering democracy within the party, emphasizing the strides made in the past year, including adopting social democracy as Muda’s ideology and a comprehensive rebranding effort.

Amira also encouraged party members to contest for leadership roles, underscoring the importance of internal democracy. She expressed hope that former Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, who stepped down last year following a corruption conviction, would join the race. The party has appointed VKK Rajasekaran Teagarajan to lead the election committee, with plans underway to finalize nomination and election dates in consultation with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
