GEORGE TOWN, December 18 – Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), a government-owned entity, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, at Kompleks KOMTAR. The meeting, attended by PAAB’s Chairman Dato’ Seri Ir. Jaseni Maidinsa, CEO Ir. Zulkiflee Omar, and CFO Zaleha Abdul Hamid, focused on the company’s commitment to supporting the state’s water infrastructure.

PAAB is set to fund nearly RM1 billion in the construction of two new water treatment plants in Seberang Perai, scheduled to begin in 2025. The planned projects include the Sungai Perai Water Treatment Plant in Seberang Perai Tengah, with a daily capacity of 136 million liters of water, and the Sungai Muda Water Treatment Plant in Seberang Perai Utara, which will treat 114 million liters per day.

These plants are expected to enhance the state’s water supply reserve margins by 15%, ensuring a more sustainable water supply to meet the growing demand in the region’s urban and industrial sectors. PAAB, established under the Water Services Industry Act 2006, plays a pivotal role in executing the National Water Services Industry Restructuring Plan across Peninsular Malaysia.

This marks PAAB’s first water infrastructure project in Penang since the state signed the Water Supply Industry Restructuring Plan in 2011. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to future development and aligns with the federal government’s broader water management goals.
