GEORGE TOWN, December 20 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang has arrested an enforcement officer for allegedly soliciting a bribe of RM80,000 from a woman. The suspect, believed to be in his 40s, reportedly demanded the bribe in exchange for altering testimony to secure her husband’s release from detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma 2012).
The arrest occurred after the suspect requested an additional RM2,000 and received RM1,000 in cash during a meeting at a petrol station in Sungai Dua. Penang MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. The suspect will be presented in court for a remand application to assist in further investigations.
