KUALA LUMPUR, December 24 — Malaysia and Thailand have set an ambitious target to achieve US$30 billion (RM133.8 billion) in bilateral trade by 2027, as part of their commitment to enhancing investment and economic cooperation. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the significant economic potential in both nations.
Highlighting the need for increased focus on the northern provinces of Malaysia and the southern provinces of Thailand. During a joint press conference with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, both leaders discussed various areas of cooperation, including border connectivity, the digital economy, tourism, rubber, and the halal industries.
They also signed key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on rubber and cultural cooperation. Paetongtarn emphasized the importance of addressing flood-related issues and improving border road and rail connectivity to facilitate trade and enhance people-to-people interactions between the two countries.
